Lent Course: Too busy not to prey

Monday, February 6th, 2012

This year our Lent Course is based on a book which I think will ring bells with all of us. It’s called ‘Too busy not to
pray’. Of course we probably most often express it as ‘Too busy to pray’ it’s not that we don’t want to or that we don’t intend to but life is so busy it’s really hard to find the time and space we need to pray.

This Lent Course – adapted from the book of the same name shows us that it’s precisely when we’re at our most busy when we need to pray the most. Over the course of the weeks of Lent it will gently lead us into a new way of thinking about our prayer lives and will help us make a more central place in our lives for that most important of things – spending time with God. If you’ve ever wished you could pray more or better then this is the Lent Course you have been waiting for.

We will be having small groups again and now is the time to be thinking/praying about whether you would like to lead and or host a group or whether to you plan to go to a group. The sign up sheets are now available at the back of church — PLEASE SIGN UP BY FEBRUARY 12TH. A leaflet with more information on it is available at the back if you have not already had one.

The book is Prayer: Too Busy not to Pray, cost approx. £4.99. Limited number of copies available: see Roger Holbrook to buy one.

Based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, Martin Scorsese’s controversial ‘The Last
Temptation of Christ’ documents Jesus’s own revelation that he himself is the
Messiah. Capturing the great spiritual weight placed upon this carpenter from
Nazareth, his greatest temptation comes when he is allowed to step down off the
cross and live his life amongst other men.

GROUP of the MONTH : Messy Church

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Messy Church
Messy Church

Messy Church has continued to go from strength to strength. Each month between 60 and 85 people gather to have fun playing games and making crafts on a theme. After a short lively service many then stay to eat tea – up to 50 usually.

We had a dip in numbers for a while when we were no longer able to put posters on the trees, but now we have (thanks to Paul Thomas) got small poster boards around the church, we have permission to put up large posters around school and we have gone back to putting flyers in the book-bags at school, our numbers have increased again.

This year we have looked at the stories of Noah, Joseph, and Abraham and Sarah (where a go-cart was built, which the children loved) and most recently we have looked at the Ascension of Jesus and Pentecost.

We have a very loyal, but small, team of helpers and more would be great. What we would really like is to have two teams who solely concentrate on the kitchen – if we had 2 teams they would not have to be there every month, but could take it in turns. We would also like to have a team solely in charge of clearing up at the end – who would come at about 5.15ish or later if that suits -  this would be ideal for people who are working as they can do it on the way home. If you think you would like to be involved in the kitchen or the clearing up team then let me know. Also, if you would like to join the craft team then let me know too – even if you think you are not a ‘crafty’ type of person you can still help – I am not at all ‘crafty’ but just about survive doing them! Thanks.
